Warm-up two · four lines, one habit, ten minutes EASY
One logged time was moved after the fact. The keeper’s habit is the rule: he never writes a line before the thing above it happened. Rebuild the night, find the line that breaks the rule, and state your falsifier.
She guides. She never guesses for you. The stamp is earned by your proof, not hers.
A keeper writes his log the moment things happen.
It is the night of 9 March 1912 at Eel Point Light. The keeper logs as he goes: lamp lit, fog horn, a supply boat, the lamp trimmed. Four lines, sealed as always, line by line. When the inspector reads the log a week later, one line’s time has been moved after the seal went on — and the keeper’s one habit is what betrays it: he never wrote a line before the thing above it happened.
You do not need to be a programmer to play. The press below recomputes any line’s seal right here in your browser — exactly what the guild’s rule describes. Press each seal; where the press and the register disagree, the seal is cracked. Then check the clerk’s rule to name which field was rewritten.
